National ACE Strongly Supports Katherine Tai as Nominee for U.S. Trade Representative
December 10, 2020
The Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (National ACE) strongly supports the nomination of Katherine Tai for U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) by the Biden-Harris Administration. The USTR, a Cabinet-level position within the Executive Office of the President, is responsible for enforcing America’s trade rules and negotiating new trading terms with China and other countries. If confirmed, Katherine Tai will be the first Asian American and the first woman of color and to serve as the USTR.
Ms. Tai is a veteran international trade expert with a depth of experience. She is the Chief Trade Counsel for the Ways and Means Committee at the U.S. House of Representatives and previously served at USTR’s Office of the General Counsel as Associate General Counsel and then as Chief Counsel for China Trade Enforcement. She garnered wide bipartisan support for her vital role in negotiating stronger labor provisions with the Trump administration in the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal and secured key victories for American workers. She has a history of working closely with our allies while advocating for trade policies that prioritize our workers first and level the playing field for American workers and families.
Ms. Tai is deeply respected by a wide range of constituencies and will approach our country’s trade policy with the dedication and urgency it deserves. She will be ready on day one, and National ACE supports a speedy confirmation process so that Ms. Tai can hit the ground running and pursue the Biden Administration’s vision of a pro-American worker strategy. She is the right person at the right time for this important role, and National ACE congratulates Ms. Tai on her nomination.
