The event focused on the impacts of COVID-19 on Asian American and Pacific Islander-owned businesses and recovery in the community, and how entrepreneurs can lead the way in promoting equity. Attendees heard from business leaders on how they are working together to speak out against discrimination and support AAPI-owned enterprises.

ACE NextGen was founded to increase Asian presence in American leadership.
Although Asians account for 5.6% of the total population in the U.S., less than 2% occupy leadership positions in politics, business, medicine, academia, and entrepreneurship.
ACE NextGen serves as a platform for young Asians to forge their own path towards advancement with the support of a like-minded community.

Craig Terrill serves as the State of Michigan Procurement's Communications Specialist. In this role, he leads the Procurement’s marketing and outreach efforts to help stakeholders understand and navigate the procurement process. Previous to working in Procurement, he served as the Media Specialist for the City of Takoma Park, Maryland. Takoma Park is a Washington D.C. suburb that is a recognized national leader in government lead sustainability practices.
Chris Mitchell began her career with the State’s Central Purchasing Office began over 28 years ago as an Information Technology Buyer Specialist in Telecommunications and Data Systems purchases and Human Services Professional Services Contracts. Currently, she is the E-Procurement System (SIGMA) trouble-shooter for Central Procurement Services, providing training, one on one support, writing tips and procedures, and problem-solving.

On September 29, 2020, National ACE partnered with Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) to focus on the American Dream of homeownership, specifically around policy challenges and barriers to access to capital for AAPI communities across the nation. Panelists will discuss trends in AAPI homeownership, and specifically discuss unique housing issues that our community faces.

The government buys everything, from paper clips to tanks. 5% of those purchases must be awarded to “small, disadvantaged business” which includes AAPI-owned small businesses. In partnership with the GSA, Asian Inc., Chinese Chamber of Commerce MN, Philippine American Chamber of Commerce Metro DC, Chinese Mutual Aid, and America’s SBDC IL - the U.S. General Services Administration will explain how to contract with the Federal Government as a small business owner.
