Dear Chairman Cardin and Ranking Member Paul,

On behalf of the National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (National ACE) and the 2 million Asian American and Pacific Islander businesses we represent, I write today in full support of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee advancing the nomination of Mr. Dilawar Syed to be Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) during the Committee’s business session on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. The SBA is a vital partner to America’s small businesses, particularly during this time of economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After more than three years without a Deputy Administrator to help manage the agency and fulfill the extraordinary mandate laid forth by Congress, further delay on this nomination only serves to undercut the Agency’s ability to support small business recovery and American economic competitiveness. We support efforts to ensure a fair and transparent nomination process that provides ample time for information gathering on the proposed nominee. However, we believe that Mr. Syed’s qualifications speak to his unwavering and firm commitment to supporting America’s small businesses during some of their darkest days. Further delay of his confirmation prevents the SBA from providing its full support to America's small businesses at a time when it is most needed. We urge the full committee to support Mr. Syed’s nomination during tomorrow’s business meeting.
